Hypothetically, if i were to be interested in P2P on Macs where would I look? I recently bought my first Mac 15'' PB and I should be recieving it this friday. I was wondering though what P2P programs are there for the Mac, I heard of Acquistion but when I watched someone use it, it appeared the results were varied at best. Are there any good Mac P2P programs out there and if so are the typical audio files still in Mp3 or AAC. Not that I would use it I was just wondering. Thanks in advance.

P2P

Some I have heard discussed...

Limewire
Aquistion
Direct Connect

Or just goggle for "p2p os x"

I haven't had any experience with them, so I can't give you any advice...

i use acquisition. probably not the best network, but i find it to be the best interface. it runs the limewire network, btw.

for the record, it's not illegal or against the rules to discuss using p2p networks. however, discussing overtly illegal uses of those networks is prohibited here. you don't want arn getting a call from the RIAA :) but you don't have to be so hypothetical, anyway...

ah, and MP3 is still the internet standard. for now.

ummm...

'From the Makers of Chaosmint'
'From the Makers of the P2P section'

Comes...

Mac-p2p.com

I suggest Poisoned with a combination with Bit Torrent on the side, and just having mLMac (just in case).

i use aquisition and poisoned.

aquisition has a better UI, but poisoned connects to more networks, like FastTrack. (aka Kazaa)

They can only make it a better application with your suggestions.

Dave (aquisition) does not really like Open thoughts...

LimeWire seems to be the only good one for me. The others, like Poisoned and mLMac connect to several networks and bring up a lot of results, but it's seldom that the downloads are even able to connect, much less end up with me having the file. Only LimeWire has worked, and the only bad thing about it is that it has limited selection.

I would be remiss if I didn't bring up the fabulous Bit Torrent which seems to have gone unmentioned so far. While it's a little bit different in execution, it's still very much a P2P application.

i think i have tried everything and come to one conclusion. there is no good p2p program for OSX. Limewire works the best for me for the moment.

Limewire is a bloated POS.

If you have tried everything, you haven't used anything.

There are so many options...

If you say one doesn't work, ask why on the many Forums we have or if the devolpers have forums.

mLMac, Poisoned, Bit Torrent.

Limewire = CPU sucker. Bloat-ware, and has ADS!

Limewire Pro =Only used 40% of your CPU (down from 44%). Still Bloat-ware, but *yay* no ads! Downside- Money... for P2P?
