OK. Please help me, please! I am about to buy an ipad.... 1 or 2 i haven't decided. Here's the question:

Can I import Garageband files created on a macbook pro onto the ipad and edit them, add vocals to them, etc..?

Can I export from the ipad to a macbook?

Also, if the answer is no to the above, is there a hack, or workaround, or jailbreak thingy that can do this?

If the answer is all no, then I have to go buy an air again. booo.

Oh, I think you know what will happen. It's grim my friend. Grim indeed.

Summary
Songs created in GarageBand for iPad can not be opened in GarageBand for Mac. Projects created in GarageBand for Mac cannot be opened in GarageBand for iPad.

Products Affected
GarageBand for iPad

A future update of GarageBand for Mac will open songs created in GarageBand for iPad.

This question is time sensitive?

These are you only export options:

Email or iTunes (as a .mp4 or .band file), but the Desktop version and iPad version do not communicate with each other, the Desktop version requires and updated version of Garageband (mine is up-to date), the same applies for Importing.

I AM SAVED!!!!!!!!!! no apple butter for me. I am truly disappointed though- i wanted the cool factor of an ipad, but now will have to settle for the more expensive, "normal" MBA 11.6". Drats!

Update: As noted in the comments below, the KBase article also notes that, “A future update of GarageBand for Mac will open songs created in GarageBand for iPad.” Our apologies for missing that rather important note.

you'll eventually get the functionality, just not yet. personally I'd still get an iPad 2 and deal with it for a few months til the upgrade. and I bet there'll be a jailbreak workaround soon

If you're able to access the file system via jailbreak (and I use CyberDuck), then you can see if the project file before export might be in the same format and you can SSH it off.

Yet more evidence that this device needs a productivity sub-set forum and that the search feature on just about any VBulletin site is flat out lousy..

I swear, if no one on the forum can tell me if my underwear is yellow or white in the next 30 mins, I am NOT going to take a shower. Just because!

:D

Well, IMO, the problem with having a subforum dedicated to "productivity," would be that there would be little agreement on what constitutes "productivity." Just look at all the threads we have on whether iPad is suitable for "real work" or not, and I think all the discussions end up being about what exactly is "work."
