Hi,
I currently have a base mid 2010 MBP 13 with a 2.4GHz C2D, 8GB RAM (it came with 4GB, upgradable to 8GB, officially, or 16GB, unofficially), a 320GB HDD, and a 320M GPU. This was my first Mac and I purchased it new. I want to get into development. I want to learn web development first and then learn iOS development. I am thinking of adding 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD to my MBP 13, or just upgrading to a refurbished 5K iMac, or maybe even building a Hackintosh. I currently use the 1280x800 13" laptop screen and sometimes use a 40" 1080p TV as a second monitor. I am considering getting a refurbished base late 2015 5K iMac with a 3.2GHz i5, 8GB RAM, a 1TB HDD, and a M380 GPU for $1,529.00. I am also considering getting a refurbished base late 2015 5K iMac with a 3.2GHz i5, 8GB RAM, a 1TB Fusion Drive, and a M390 GPU for $1,699.00. I do not game, at all, and would prefer to save the $170.00 if I won't notice much of a difference when doing web development and iOS development. I would like a pure SSD, but Apple is asking too much to upgrade to one of these. I am planning on adding more RAM on my own. I wonder if I should wait and see if a new iMac line is released and maybe get one of these refurbished 5K iMac computers even cheaper, or will they probably remain at about the same price? I noticed that there are several late 2013 non-Retina iMac 27 computers available at around the same prices as the ones I am considering. Btw, I am considering selling the keyboard and mouse that come with the refurbished 5K iMac, if I get one, because I like what I currently have.
Thanks for any help.
