I am having this exact issue here on my IPhone 3GS:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/778951/

My iphone started randomly shutting off at anywhere from 20 to 80% about 8 months ago (no problems before that) it was jailbroken over a year ago. However it would turn back on if I turned it on or plugged it in. This occur relatively infrequently about once a month. Then on 12/27/10 it happened multiple times in one day. After I fully charged the iphone it suddenly died while plugged in. Ever since it has been stuck in "dead" battery mode. I can still access DFU mode and the IPhone has not bricked. (I believe the issue is due to some kind of glitch in the battery level detector I hope it can be bypassed)

I have not backed up my phone and I have sensitive information in my notes and I have a lot of media that I need to back up before I restore my iphone. This is very important to me.

I currently live in the New York and I am willing to travel up to 300 miles or 5 hours from New York if someone with good credentials has dealt with this issue and can backup my files. Please post contact info!!!

Background:

Computer: PC (Dell)
IPhone OS: 3GS 3.0.1

In the mean time, does anyone know a method to discharge the iphone when it can't turn on?
