I have a 14 pro and I think I’m pretty sure I’ll be upgrading to a 17 pro.

When I was in Apple a few weeks back, I wanted a battery replacement. It was tough enough for the guy to run checks on my phone because I was straight out guilty of dirty downgrading from an ios26 beta back to 18, and he KNEW 🤣 It caused some issues we did manage to get over.

While we waiting for my iPhone to sort its s*** out, I said if it didn’t recover, I was cool about it because I was possibly gonna upgrade.

He suggested I scuttle out of the store without my battery upgrade for now until I decided what to do. He said he normally locks in the best price with the music magpie type sites just prior to the Apple announcements . I remember thinking “that’s what the Mac rumours crew does”.

The problem is, I see most of these sites don’t accept iPhones with a battery capacity like mine (77%)

He also suggested trading in with Apple and they won’t care about any potential downgrade bugs I might have.

So what are my options?

Is there somewhere reliable I can trade in for a good price

OR

Can I take my phone to Apple prior to the iPhone 17 announcement and exchange for gift cards, and then purchase? Or would there be no difference in trade in price with Apple?

If you live where there is high sales tax, and you end up deciding to trade it in with Apple and also get a new iPhone, you'll pay less sales tax if you connect the trade-in to the new purchase, as they subtract the trade-in before applying sales tax.

Would you expect the trade in price to differ from now than release date?
