On my G4 with OX 10.4.1. started getting double text in my pull-down menu in Finder. Now I have two "Restart" and "Shutdown" and "Log Out" under apple menu.
Also get strange "box" appearing in every new window i pull to front.
This happened a few years ago, and I re-installed my OS X. Bad move. lost all my email.
Is there better way to resolve this?

thanks.
Doug

Try upgrading to OS X 10.4.11 as a first step.

I have actually never heard anything like that before. The only thing I can think of is to restore. Backup everything first...

a trial I just attempted. no luck

Just checked and i do have OS X 10.4.11.

Found this online and did twice. Still same problem.

Trash the following two files in the Macintosh HD > Library > Caches folder:

* com.apple.LaunchServices-0140.csstore
* com.apple.LaunchServices-014nnn.csstore

As I said before, backup and restore is all i can think of.

I have grave reservations about restoring.

This may be the answer, but I am very shy of restoring my 500,000 files, and find the same annoyance. Nothing in my System that needs a kick?
thank you
:)

I feel your pain... how many files need backing up?It probably couldn't hurt to start keeping a backup drive. Good luck!;)
