Hi,

I have not been able to set up the mail account that comes with ilife.

I own an ibook and I would appreciate your help to do this.

I have two e-mail accounts. It would be very cool for me to set both
up.

One e-mail account is:

igmolinav@yahoo.de

and the other one is:

igmolinav@gmail.com

I haven't been able to configure it. (Are these e-mail accounts Pop, Imap, or exchange?? - I tried every possibility and it didn't work out).

Thank you very much in advance,

igmolinav

Not sure about Yahoo, but Gmail is definitely IMAP. Here are the instructions.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure the US version of Yahoo! Mail only allows POP3 support if you upgrade to the paid version... It might be different in Germany.

I am using ilife 8.0, (the latest version), on the ibook. Is that a deterrent ??

One can not access "preferences" in the mail account : ( !!!

It sounds like you are going in the wrong direction.

You should be in Mail.app.

If you enter your gmail address and your password in the accounts section of Mail Preferences, it should automatically set it up for you.

as another poster noted Mail doesn't come with iLife it comes with Mac OSX. Are you running tiger or leopard is the real question. You have to pay for your yahoo mail to work but gmail should be a really simple set up in leopard. you can look up instructions for how to set up gmail in tiger by going to the gmail website, logging in, going into settings, and then pop and imap and then instructions.

Yeah, just to echo what others have said, Mail.app has nothing to do with iLife. It comes bundled with OS X. If you have Tiger, you'll have to use the link I posed. If you have Leopard it should automatically help you get it setup by just putting in your username and password.

Hi,

I describe to you what I do and it doesn't work out:

Account Type: IMAP
Account Description: IMAP
Name: igmolinav
e-mail address: I have written igmolinav@gmail.com, and igmolinav@googlemail.com, and none of them worked.

Next step, it asks for:
incoming e-mail server: http://mail.google.com/mail/
Name: igmolinav
Password: XXXXXXXX

Sometimes it doesn't go on, when it goes on it asks me for:
outgoing e-mail server: smtp.example.com but I don't know
which is my outgoing server, nor what stmp means
Name, and
Password are asked again
at this point it gets stucked !!!

Thank you for your help in advance,

Ignacio.

first, make sure you enable imap in gmail: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77695&topic=13294
then, try following google's setup page here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=81379&topic=12814

yeah, go read the google setup page.

you are WAY off. the server should be something like imap.gmail.com.

Good luck.
