it turns out I have to have to patch wine. I have no idea how to do it and I googled it, but it is too damn confusing. Any help?

I've used crossover in the past and have never gotten semi modern games to run well even patched. I recommend buying an old windows xp or 7 disc and use bootcamp FPS will be useable and you can set the graphics higher. Not to say wine is bad it's great for programs like word and Internet explorer that are not graphically intensive.

If you into Windows games on Mac OS X... I'd suggest becoming a member over at portingteam.com forums.

You cannot apply patches to Crossover. While its based on Wine builds, the source isn't fully available to apply patches for and build.

Wineskin is made to handle things like that though its a bit more advanced... you'd have to get the Wine source you need to patch, apply the patch, have Xcode 3.x installed, and use Wineskin Winery to compile the engine from the patches Wine source for you... then it would be easily bundled up into a normal Mac app to play.

I do not know if anyone has gotten that exact game working in any porting method, including Wineskin... I know there had been some requests and discussions abut it over at portingteam.com though if you search the forums.

Time Analysis

You'll spend more time futzing around with Wine that it's worth. If you want to spend your game playing time playing games, your only choices are:
1. Buy a gaming PC. You can get a good one for under $1,000.
2. Buy Windows 7 and install via Boot Camp.
3. Don't play Windows games.

thats completely utterly personal preference... subjective... shouldn't be stated as a fact. Some of us actually enjoy getting things working as much playing it itself...

Plus theres hundreds of games you don't even have to try since other people do it for you over at portingteam.com.

Thanks for your responses. I am going to check out that forum. This is going to be my last attempt because it's just becoming a huge pain in the ass. I had windows and this game installed with bootcamp, but decided to get rid of it because I hate windows and it was taking up my hard drive space. I heard about crossover games and got excited, but of course, you have to do this coding ******** to get it to work. Evidentally I am just not that smart.
