I am unable to import video to iMovie

I am trying to import and edit videos (.wmv, .avi, .mov) files into iMovie. But it is not taking them.
I was only able to import videos that were in my iPhoto library.
Does anyone know how I can import my other video files into iMovie so that i can edit them?

You'll need a video converter, preferably one that outputs to mpeg-4 or dv filetypes. These converted files can then be imported into iMovie and cut as part of an iMovie project.

www.squared5.com can transcode your .avi and .mov files to .mov files using the DV or Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC), .wmv files might need Flip4Mac Pro/Studio to so.
