They almost go over their data cap every month. I know I know right now most isps but only until tomorrow have removed the data caps.

The problem is they are are normal internet user, not even a internet geek. They do binge a lot though. Netflix, Disney +, etc

I guess either they have to pay up every time they go over or pay up and get unlimited data.

I am not sure what you're worried about here: his addiction or him going incurring extra expenses?

Why do you care about any of this at all? Can your friends not afford to pay their bills? I tend to worry about my own finances and don't give a rat's ass what anyone else is doing. It isn't my money.

While I wouldn't argue that digital addiction is as bad as heroin addiction, I'd still argue that it's a very dangerous thing. https://www.calnewport.com/blog/2014/06/05/dont-fight-distraction-make-it-irrelevant/

He's using lots of data, plenty of people over use especially with streaming 4K. I get the "digital addiction", but we're sitting inside a little more, using lots of data - I track ours even though we're unlimited, and with a few tiers, we'd be over - and we're not addicted.

As far as I know ...

Well, we've been meaning to talk to you about that ... have a seat.

Um...About that phone call to that 14 year old? I wasn’t serious! I was concerned that’s why I drove 500 miles to get here.

Yep, we're all adults, let him focus on what's important to him, and deal with the consequences. Not your problem in how he spends his time and money

Unless your friend has diminished capacity and you are his/her legal guardian, keep out of their business. Concern is admirable, but if you have not been asked for advice, keep away.

I've read the OP three times now, and I'm still not sure what the exact meaning of this topic is...
Going off the highlighted words in post #3, they're worried about the extra money their friend is near to spending.

Seems a little strange to start a thread on some forums about this. When simply telling your friend to change their plan would be much more appropriate.

I am worried that the Show Runner didn't fully realize how the mystery will unfold and will leave us with too many unanswered questions by season three. Oh wait, this is not Netflix. All this isolation is messing up my concentration.

I'm not accusing you of anything, but we did bring in an expert ...
