So I’m big into pc water cooling, but I’ve always also been a huge Mac fan, in fact I’ve owned pretty much every Mac Pro, and even the G5 power macs.

the 2019 Mac Pro really piqued my interest, but having a Threadripper rig I couldn’t justify the cost for a while.

i stumbled on a practically new open box Mac Pro at micro center, base model, for about 4100

i do video editing, and also have an iMac Pro which I really like.

I plan to upgrade the Mac Pro myself, already got:

1. a apple 1tb upgrade kit installed
2. 96gb of apple Oem ram I got 2nd hand for cheaper
3. w5700x module coming
4. Pegasus j2i enclosure ( initially went with sonnet j3i, but I got the Pegasus for decent price so figured I’d rather use it, plus nicer cables lol)
5. Got a sonnet fusion ssd raid pcie drive, seems to work well with big sur 11.3 now
6. Owc pcie nvme adapter for a 2tb nvme

debating on a cpu upgrade, but for video I’m ok with the 8 core for now since it’s more gpu based.

really like the vega ii gpu module, but for the cost the w5700x seems to be solid.

overall, beautiful machine, best design and build quality I’ve ever seen, and actually a lot of fun to upgrade, like a pc.
