The volume on songs is nearly 25% louder, if not more, using YouTube Music than it is with Apple Music. Makes no sense! I began to think they were defective until I played same music in YM.

It's louder going through Firefox to macOS 15.7.2 on my M1 Max Studio and then via my Audient iD4 to my Kali LP-6 monitors, also. I don't think it has anything to do with AirPods.

It's easy to crank the output at the source, which I suppose YouTube has done.

Sure! My frustration is with Apple. Why is the output of their music so low. I also know low is relative, but it’s a difference of 100% up on AM and wanting more to 90ish% on YM and can’t take anymore.

You'll have tinnitus like me one day.

I would verify EQ and Sound Check is off in Music settings, also goto Headphone safety and make sure that is off. There is also another feature for Headphone Customization in Audio/Video settings that might do something for you.

Apple Music has a lower loudness normalization. This allows musicians to focus on dynamic range instead of compressing it to compete with volume. Two songs that are mastered for streaming (-14 to -16 LUFS) with everything else identical one will sound quieter on Apple Music vs YM. Generally its hasn't been a large enough difference for me to care but to each their own.

If that doesnt work and no obvious differences in quality standout then just use YM.
