It wasn't long after I had completed an 'Erase & Install' to reclaim some HDD space and noticed a single pink pixel (stuck?) when the news came of a price drop both on the 1.8GHz and the SSD.

I am eligible for the Education Discount which makes the 1.8GHz only $180 more. Should I/Can I return to the Apple Store and ask to a) Return because of pixel and b) Pay for the CTO 1.8GHz processor?

Thanks crew!

My 411: Macbook Air - 80GB HDD - 1.6GHz - One Dead Pixel

Return It

I would return it and either go educational and get the free iPod or go refurb. I have had awesome experience with the refurb store. Good prices and always reliable machines. That would be my advice

Try and take a cotton cloth and lightly rub the screen where that pixel is, it may just be stuck. I had a laptop like that once and lightly touching the screen fixed the pixel and it never got stuck again.I would get the 1.8 if I were you.

you'll most likely be stuck with restocking if you return. a swap might be a possibility depend how nice your genius is. i think 1 pixel, even though irritating, is in spec. unfortunately

it isn't apple's policy (nor others') to replace your system over a single stuck pixel. since the computer is only a couple days old, your best bet would be to return the system altogether, though you might be hit with a 10% restocking fee. if it's worth the upgrade to the 1.8 ghz model, then go for it. but if you're looking for a way to get the 1.8 ghz macbook air only paying the difference of $180, i doubt you'll be able to do it.

No they wont replace it over 1 dead pixel. Yes they will take it back but you will have to pay a 10% restocking fee.

In other words, $1699(1.08)+169+180(1.08)-299. eBay free iPod Touch.

$1834.92+$169+194.44-299=$1899.36

i doubt you'll be able to get full retail on an ipod touch. $200 (after all ebay fees and stuff) sounds more appropriate.

I wouldn't even mention the single dead pixel, because that will be a red flag, and the Apple Store will definitely charge you a restocking fee.

If you simply say that you had second thoughts and want the faster model, they might be willing to waive the fee, since you'd be spending more money. No harm asking, because you can always walk out without doing anything in the end. Definitely don't mention the dead pixel though.

Call Apple support and explain the situation to them. I have read before that Apple customer support should be able to provide credit or work something out.

It depends if you wanted to go through all of that hassle just for one stuck pixel when you never know what the next laptop has for you.
