Hi, I have set it up so that I can access my router and then my TC over the internet. However I cannot access the hard drive that is attached to the TC by USB. I am not using back to my mac but am accessing my buffalo router and then have port forwarding to the TC

I don't use the TC as a router but as a network drive attached to my home wireless network
This drive shows up and can be accessed when I connect to the TC on my wireless network at home.

At home the time capsule shows up a shared device and the external hard drive shows up as attached to it.

Away from home via the internet the tc shows up as a shared but the external hd does not show up as being connected to it. The "kind" in the finder window is a sharepoint.

The usb drive does not have it's own power supply Could that be an issue?

Would a network drive attached to the TC via Ethernet (those other ports on the back of TC?) be more successful, although they tend not to have their own power supply either.

How secure is access a server like this?
