i can hear my hard drive

i have a blackbook and recently ive been hearing my hard drive work, or write whatever the term is and more often i am getting the beachball is there something i should be worried off? i do disk permissions and no error comes up

The thing you should be checking is the S.M.A.R.T. status of your hard drive. Onyx should be able to do that. Just search for it on Macupdate.

Do you have a backup? I would recommend that if you don't already. $90 for a backup drive is much better than losing all your data.
