Hi guys,

three months ago I leaved my home to stay with my parents during the lockdown, leaving behind my external monitor (the complete setup is in my signature). Today I have returned to my home and I discovered that if I set the refresh rate of my external monitor to 144Hz from 60Hz in System Preferences -> Displays It suddenly turns back and the message "DisplayPort No Signal" appears. By the way the computer still detects the monitor and If I click around the black screen I can even manage to open some applications or windows.

The computer is a MacBook Pro 16 inch running MacOS 10.15.5. Could someone help figure out the problem? Thank you in advance!

Edit - Trials I have done to try to fix this problem:
  • Reset SMC
  • Reset PRAM
  • Restart in SafeMode
  • Reinstall macOS in recovery mode
  • Contacted by chat AppleCare support twice, they couldn't give me an explanation
  • Bought a Cable Matter adapter USB-C to DisplayPort 1.4 to connect directly the monitor to the MacBook with no luck

Alright, I was hoping to help you in case if you got stuck with the black screen, and can't revert the settings to 60Hz. I hope someone can help you.
Thanks man. Fortunately I can revert it but this is so bad..

Yo I am experiencing this issue please help. I was on my secondary monitor set refresh rate to 144hz and it went black. I cannot get back to it in order to revert it to 60hz. I have also deleted the com.app.windowserver file and restarted with no luck. Any other suggestions? I am on a macbook the 12in macOS High Sierra version 10.13.6.
