Title says it all really. I've got an mp3 parked up in a folder on my desktop. It can play through iTunes fine but I can't add it to my library so I can put it on my iPod touch. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I've manually dragged it into iTunes and it doesn't show up and I've also tried File -> Add To Library.

Am running iTunes 9.0.2.25 on Vista SP2.

Ideas would be appreciated! Thanks! :)

There was a change in iTunes 9.

Navigate to Home Folder/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media

You will see a folder called, "Automatically Add to iTunes" and it does as it says. Make an alias in your sidebar for easier access.

I get the track to play from the folder by right clicking and 'Open with iTunes'.

When the track is playing it shows at the top with the status bar (sorry, don't know all the right terms) but it doesn't display in the library area below and I can't add it.

I've scrolled through the whole library and there is no little speaker graphic to the side like there is when I'm playing anything in the library. I even arranged the library by alphabetical order and it doesn't show there either!

I pasted the file into that folder and it disappeared automatically...and isn't in my library!

Being an idiot I 'cut' it from my previous folder and now it has disappeared!

Have you searched for it with the search bar?

It isn't showing there using that either:(

Could it be something to do with the settings for the file itself?

Off to bed now but I'll check in in the morning. Thanks for the suggestions so far!

We'll I've found it...playing in the bloody podcasts window!

It's a regular, one track mp3 file though so wasn't expecting it go hiding over there.

Transferred over to the Music folder...and we're done. Sorry!

Go here, and make sure it's checked as music.
