It’s entirely my fault but I thought the Duo was Type-C. I played myself thinking I could have one cable and one brick for all of my stuff

It’s not your fault. I too share that optimistic view on having one charging method for all my devices. Maybe some day...

It would’ve made sense for it to be USB- C but for some reason Apple are still clinging onto lightning which I don’t understand
Not really. It’s a phone and watch charger. Neither of them use USB-C connectors. Only one of the devices typically need a charge “boost”, which is the phone. The same cable to charge the phone by itself should be the same one that powers the Duo.

Of course we want the phone to be USB-C as well, but I think we’re close to finding out.

The 30-pin connector stayed for 9 years before the introduction of Lightning.
Lightning started in 2012.... conveniently 9 years after 2012 would be any phone released in 2021.

The only unknown is whether they pivot to USB-C or go portless.

Re-read what I wrote. It’s a phone charger first. It’s a watch charger next. Neither phone or watch have a USB-C port. There is no point bundling a USB-C to USB-C right now when neither watch or phone can consume a direct USB connection.

and of course the watch is a true 24 hr device these days so you really only need the puck at night. The modularity here during travel would be the ability to take the cable and the brick with you during the day, and then reuse it when you want to charge both at night.
