Have you tried using Disk Utility? You can burn to disc there, or there is the option to directly burn to disc from the Finder, with the files selected.

If you don't mind paying for it, Toast is a great program with a lot of increased functionality over the included Disk Utility.

What kinds of things are you trying to burn?

You should use Roxio's Toast! It's an excellent app to burn files.
You can purchase it online at roxio.com!

If you want to rip DVDs to your HD, use MacTheRipper! It's free and very handy!
Furthermore, you can convert to various formats (DivX, Xvid, mp4, ...) with Handbrake or burn backups with Toast! I think that the newer versions of Toast even includ a feature that shrinks DVD files to fit!
