I can't control my speaker volume

For some reason I can't control my speaker volume anymore. I tried going to System Prefs but I can't change any of the speaker settings. What's going on?

EDIT: Nevermind, it randomly started working again.

Did you ever figure out what the problem was? This happened to me once too and it randomly worked again, but it just did it now and I can't seem to get it back on
