I had an M4 pro and only sold it as I wanted a cellular model as I can use different ips with eSIM.

Now I can’t decide if I should wait a month or just suck it up and buy one now. I was happy with the m4

I use the iPad to generate passive income arbitrage sports betting. The Sportsbook apps work much better than they do on computers because of geo location.

I know waiting I can either get a newer device or discounted pro but feel like I’m just losing money as I’m not able to effectively do my arbitrage betting.

As stupid as it sounds I’m having a hard time tossing money towards a product that’s going to be replaced.

Help me make a decision.

Waiting on new tech, especially tech that won't make a difference with your passive income is a waste of time, not to mention chasing tech to have the latest tech is an exercise in futility as there is always something new being released several times a year. If you need or want a new iPad now and can afford it, get one. See how simple that is? No need to make simple decisions complicated.

I’ve done both, purchased now and or waited for the “new improved” model.

Years of experience in the Apple ecosystem have revealed either way works without a penalty of consequence. Sometimes newer isn’t always better.

Good luck with your decision.

The passive income part is what has me considering purchasing now.

There is no point in waiting. You already answered your own question in your OP.
The 16gb would make it easier to have multiple apps open in stage manager. That’s really the only feature I’d be eying that’s different from m4. I can care less about cameras

Then you can get the 1Tb M4 Pro which comes with 16Gb RAM.

Best recommend I can make is to go to the store and play around with one. I can confirm that All iPads in store have been updated to OS 26. I recommend playing around with the OS and get a feel for it.

The M4 is an incredibly powerful device as it is, there’s no reason to wait.
Power has never been a problem and rarely been a reason for upgrade from one generation to the next. Based on rumors RAM is a much bigger reason. But only for nerds, most people don't even know what RAM is

I deliberately didn’t mention power. The M4 overall is incredibly powerful. I still don’t see ram as a reason to upgrade because the M4 has not met its limitations yet.

Of course, IF Apple releases software that changes that then my opinion will change. But I doubt they’ll make the M4 obsolete after one year.

Are we playing with words here? You said powerful and you didn't mention power? Whatever it is CPU power, GPU power, M4 has plently, just like previsous M iPads. RAM is becoming a limitation... for nerds. Maybe not for you. Other people are annoyed by reloads with 8GB, some people don't use the iPad in a way where they experience reloads or where reloads matter. That's why I said RAM is a bigger issue than power for nerds. Most people don't care about either.

I meant powerful as in its overall capabilities. I don’t think many people bought the M4 Pro on the belief it would be insufficient a year later.

For most people the M4 is plenty, as is the M1 and M2. Personally I was not expecting to regret getting the base model. I did when I realized that iPadOS 18 was ejecting stuff from RAM much more than 17 (26 is not worse, but no better either). But again 99% of people wouldn't even care about this.
The M5 should remove this issue for those who care (my M1 with 16GB RAM does not have this issue at all).

What tasks are you finding lead to this?

My tabs reload if I do other things on the iPad and then I leave enough time (typically the day after). In the past I kept multiple tabs opens (several gmail desktop pages for both my private and workspace accounts), youtube and others, and also 2 browser, Safari and Brave. To reduce the issue with iPadOS 18 I stopped using Brave and reduced my tabs to just my private email account and one or 2 youtube pages. Still, if I open enough stuff, like my email clients (outlook, em client and gmail), Word, a PDF reader, Dropbox, my ecommerce app, so nothing major (no video editing, gaming etc) my tabs will reload, not immediately but after a few hours or a day (many probably wouldn't care, but if I have a youtube video paused I'll lose that for instance). This doesn't happen on my 16GB devices (where I leave much more stuff open), and didn't happen on iPadOS 17, to the point where I said no need to get 16GB, I'll get the base M4.

This is my problem. If I have more than 3-4 sportsbooks apps open in stage manager, each of which receiving realtime data streams the iPad will black screen, wheel, and restart the app state.

Its clearly a ram issue
