I moved several files from the desktop into the trash bin. When I open the trash bin and highlight a single file, and press the red delete button, it simply moves the file back to the desktop. If I empty the trash bin, it does delete all of the files. Is there a trick to simply deleting a single file or folder?

I'm using snow leopard on a macbook. Thanks.

Thank you! I'm still a newbie with Macs... even after using one for 3 months now.

What? You expected to become a pro in less than 3 months? And your screen name is VistaDude? Maybe in another 3 months, you'll become a MacDude! ;)

It's not a "trick" or even a "one-step" method, but it sure is fast (be careful, it's also FINAL!)

Highlight the file(s) or folder(s) you want to delete.
Hit the Command and Delete keys. (In the trash, buster)
Hit Shift Command and Delete keys (poof)

Mousing around all the time, you may be forgetting that the keyboard is usable too.

[Aside] Ohh, Hi aggie, ever get your HD sorted out?
