I can't find the Quicktime player

I can find the icon, but when I click it takes me to a white window, not the player/recorder. Where is it?

The player window does not appear until you open a file. The recording window doesn't appear until you go to make a recording.

These functions are accessible from the menu bar.

Thanks! It didn't even occur to me to look at the menu bar. Boy am I dumb!
