i cloud keeps rejecting my apple id

so i downloaded mountain lion. It took forever. As soon As I get through start up I am greeted with a message that says enter apple id to use back to mac. I keep entering it and mountain lion keeps on rejecting it. I periodically get more messages saying icloud will not work and photo stream will not work because icloud is not connected. what gives???
