Hello,

Like the title reads, I currently own the above Watch and ive had it since release. I have both standard strap and the space black link-bracelet from Apple for it.

Im curious about the new Apple Watch S10 Titan 46mm Gold-variant with the gold Milanese. Would the upgrade be justifiable or could I squeeze out a few more years? Is the upgrade, as one would say, ”reasonably” big? The one big thing Id like is always on-display.

Also, question about the milanese, can it be worn reasonably while sleeping aswell as when showering/bathing in pools etc?

I also have had the S4 Apple Watch, though mine is the gold SS. Personally, I’m upgrading to the S10 42mm, and here is why:

—The series 4 will no longer receive major software updates. That may not matter to you, but it’s something to consider.

—My battery is at 67%, so I need to do something. I stretched it out this summer as much as I could since I knew the newest version would be coming out. I could replace the battery and go on, but I’m ready for the updated features. (If your battery is okay, then you might be fine.)

—I’m just ready for the new version. The screen is slightly larger, but it should be much faster than my six-year old watch.

Those are my reasons. I could probably think of one or two more, but that’s essentially it. If none of that applies to you, then you are fine. But when you ask if the update is “reasonably big”, my answer would be yes. When it comes to technology, six years is a lot.

Good luck!

ETA: One more thing: You could order the new watch, and if you don’t like it or don’t see that reasonably big change, you can always return the watch within two weeks and get your money back.

Question, do you regret getting the gold? I thought about the gold s4 but I chickened out last second…

Thanks! Might just get one.

About the Milanese ….. personally I couldn’t sleep in mine, if I sleep in my AW I tend to use an old sport loop. That said I tend to only wear my Milanese very occasionally when I need ‘smart’.

I wavered quite a bit, especially since I have the silver stainless link bracelet. However, I don’t wear it a lot; the few times I’ve worn it in the last six years I’ve put on a cover over the gold. This time around, I chose the natural titanium, but quite honestly I’m still wavering on that. It’s hard to picture the color. I might try it and return it.

Checked my battery. After more than 6 years of continous use its at 93%?! That is one amazing battery.

That is amazing! I wear my watch night and day, and I’ve been limping through the summer. 67% doesn’t last very long, and I didn’t realize just how much I use my watch until it started going dead after a few hours. Ugh. I can’t wait to get my new watch next Friday!

Almost 25% more display area 44->46, 30% 40->42

For me, AOD was a really nice improvement as I can usually see the time without moving my wrist at all. Hasn't had any discernible impact on battery life vs non-AOD models I had before.

The move to 2000 nits brightness is a nice benefit outdoors in sunlight as well.

yes, and if on the fence do not do in store trade in for your old watch as it will be irrevocably gone.

Shouldn’t have to say this but …. :)

If you are interested in always-on display, this is a great point to jump in, as the S10 is the first one to have AOD that can actually update and display seconds. The previous AOD implementation only updated every minute, or when you raised your wrist, causing a noticeable lag in displaying the current time. I found the lag and jerkiness unpleasant so never used AOD. But I'm hopeful that with this update, it'll finally be smooth enough.

You can select in store trade in and not trade in right away. I’ve done this the past few years. I go pick up my phone and watch, take them home to transfer everything and make sure they work as intended.

Then I go back to the  store a couple of days later and trade in the items. At this point they refund the trade in price to my method of payment.

I do realize not everyone lives 10 mins from a store and this may not be feasible for everyone.

Good to know!

I have had S2, S4, S6 and Ultra 2.

The performance difference between S2 and S4 was huge.

I have noticed pretty much zero performance difference between S4 and anything more recent in every day use.

Make of that what you will.

Don't get me wrong, the Ultra 2 is a much nicer watch, but in terms of speed the S4 hit "good enough" and it is diminishing returns beyond that.

Unless there's some new watch feature you really want, with yours on 93% capacity, I'd keep using it!

My S4 also had much better battery health than my S6, still does today. S4 and ultra 2 are my favourites.

I finally upgraded my Series 4 40mm to Series 10 46mm. Lack of new WatchOS was big reason to do so. if my watch had received the latest update, I might have been able to go another year with it. But 6 years is already a lot and I am very satisfied, it served me well these years.

I think the update will be pretty nice overall.

Personally I really like the Milanese band, BUT I would not recommend sleeping with it. Two points:

1) The magnetic latch can loosen fairly easily when sleeping
2) If you bring the band up to your hair (or have a lot of body hair) it's easy for the hair to get caught in between the links and then ripped out when you move your arm.

Eeeeek. Thank you for the input. More of a ”fancy” band?

Update if someone is interested: I went to the Apple Store. I looked. I felt. I got the 46mm Titan Gold with Gold Milanese. It’s very clean and subtle gold, I love it. Almost looks undercovergold in certain lighting. It sometimes looks like silver/superlight gold-ish. Very happy!
