Well I couldn't wait any longer, I bought new MacBook Pro today, 2.00GHz stock model.

Blows my 2.0GHz P4 Toshiba out of the water.

So far:
*Re-installed OSX, freeing up 10GB of things I didn't need
*Added 1GIG Corsair Value Select RAM (BTW after reading mixed results with this RAM it is working fine)

Questions:
*Should I update to 10.4.8? I hear it has caused some problems.
*What are some good apps/widgets? I know people post these all the time but since MacRumors search function, well, sucks, I can't find them

That's it. Thanks. BTW, this is my first Mac.

for software depending on what you need I would look in this thread and links for free software as for widgets I have weather and thats about it for me.

Great, thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for.

Congrats:D I hope to be a switcher soon, too.

I may be wrong, but were you the poster that told Generik that you would be buying a current MBP model to prove him wrong? I hope so, because that would be funny :).

Yeah I did say that. I just hope they don't release the C2D too soon.

I am actually trying to get away from those threads. I need to reclaim my life.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've been way too addicted to those possible update threads the past few months, and it can be stressful. It's also hard being without a laptop during that time, so I completely understand why you'd want to buy now.

Enjoy :)

How do I get the two finger=right click option. I read a post on how to do it but it dosen't show in trackpad options.

I wondered the same thing but rest assured that that sound is normal when you put in a cd.

Thanks. I have never had a computer witha slot loading CD/DVD. The sound is rater loud but I guess it is the CD actully loading to the thingy that spins it.

It should be there... System Prefs - Keyboard and Mice - Trackpad; should be among the first checkable items.

As to 10.4.8 - I'm using that right now and I've had no problems whatsoever.

I'm sure if he freed up 10GB of space in a reinstall that he's already taken out the languages. No need for Monolingual if you do things right from the get.
I dunno... Between GarageBand, iLife, and those demos, 10 GB isn't unreasonable.

I left out a lot of drivers, all the languages, and grageband. I kept the demos and tthe rest of iLife. Freed up about 10GB.

Quick question: How does one uninstall the drivers without doing a complete reinstall?
