Hi All,

Ok so I'm sat here extremely jealous of everyone who has managed to either get the iPhone 3G, or got themselves onto a list, or into a situation where they know they can get one.

So,

I started to wonder what it will take to get one. How far can you go?

Currently I'm on Orange UK so not an official carrier. Will O2, let me buy one, sign up for contract, then pay off the contract, and have my IMEI number put onto Apple's magic "Unlocked iPhone" list to avoid issues with future software upgrades?

I've emailed them but they haven't replied.

As I'm on Orange, can I get one from France? Even if it's locked then surely it will still work with Orange UK, right?

I'm not bothered how much it will cost, I'm just wondering how far with the existing rules of Apple / official carrier do you have to go to get one.
Or is it actually impossible to get one without signing up to a contract.
