Looks tampered with. Also, the carriers don't seem to package these devices the best. My sister's phone from Verizon was in a much larger box than it needed to be with just some paper to protect it. Nothing like the Apple packaging which is perfectly designed for the phone.

Would take a lot of force to somehow rip those tabs. Why no pictures of the tabs? Were the tabs removed or was it unstuck/ripped?

That is 100% tampered with. I work in BB mobile and have dealt with a few dozen of the new iPhones already and none of them have popped open like that, in fact, the pull tabs are pretty strong and take some force to open.

Mine came from AT&T, and there was a little foam piece between the phone box and the outer box holding the phone box in place.

Ok… so what if… uh… they didn’t have enough bubble wrap and so logically, they had to open the box and prop up the charge cord packaging to hold it open and secure everything… yeah… 🤷🏼‍♂️

What would they do with it tho? Phone seems fine

Hypothetical scenarios. No smudge or fingerprint on the device? Would you ever know if the device was used and activated before getting to you? Who knows right? What if they swap it with another device so does the iPhone serial match the serial on the box? What if they are after the device serial or IMEI to spoof a blacklisted device to get it working on a network?

It’s unusual that they had to open the iPhone retail box.

Just last week, I received my Amazon package that had an open bubble mailer that was sliced open. Did I question if Amazon warehouse really shipped it like that? Surprised the item is still inside? Who’s to blame? It was just an iPhone case that still had the seal around the case packaging so I’ll let it slide.

Just like other posters suggest, the phone could be tampered by some workers, the phone could be swapped for a cheaper model, the accessories could be swapped for a malicious ones. Tons of possibilities and none of them can be entirely ruled out.

Such experience is exactly why I don’t bother buying iPhone online and getting it sent straight to my doorstep. I can get it online but it must be picked up by me.

I love how Apple uses a big piece of cardboard elaborately folded and clasped in three spots to package a thin three foot cable.

I agree with what others have said. That has clearly been opened by human hands. There is no way it would get to that point just from being thrown around. I use to work in the transit industry and there is a big difference between being thrown around in transit and this. That has definitely been tampered with. No question about it... and even though Apple aren't using plastic there are still seal stickers on every box.
