Thought I had a possible iPad 10.5 to 11" to consider this year until....
Two new Pro's+10.2 are soon to be announced.
I'm confused, though the 11" in Apple site last Sat I think is ideal size for me small fingers.
12.9 was massive to me.
Are the 10.2's going to be pro versions.

I think the 10.2 is the update to the 2018 entry level iPad.

I like the idea of the extra real estate but the 12.9 seems too large to be practical to me. I like to be able to use my 10.5 pro on my lap and I’d find the 12.9 too heavy and the 10.5 is at the limit of lap use. If I had a 12.9 I’d have to use it on a table or desk all the time.

Amazingly enough, my new 12.9” iPad in otter box case weighs less than my 10.5” with the ASK attached. I was surprised!

This!

And I believe this is Apple way to push iPad demand... bigger screen, same price slogan.

I believe you should go with the 11” version, check Best Buy for open box models. My sister was able to pick up a 64GB iPad Pro 11” model for $72 off.

The iPad Pro is in excellent condition.

There will not be a 10.2 iPad Pro. The 10.2 rumor is referring to the current 9.7 upgrade. I just got the 11 inch Pro and its amazing! Especially for video since the screen is ever so slightly a wider aspect ratio. I highly recommend it. I was almost going to get the 12.9 since I use affinity photo but the 12.9 is simply still too large of a device as a lapable tablet. But if you really want to use an iPad as a laptop replacement for more "work" and less play, then maybe a 12.9 is the right device. I use my iPad for everything from videos to games to creative apps. So the 11 inch is perfect for my use case.

Heres the best way to describe the size debate. If the iPad will be used primarily at a table or desk, then the 12.9 is probably the better choice. If you primarily use it in random spots or on the couch as a tablet, the 11 inch will be better.

we are most likely looking at over a year from now before we see another new iPad Pro.

The last generation iPad Pro was out for nearly 19 months before the 2018 model was released. I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Waiting to buy a 2018 iPad Pro is nonsense. Especially if you want one, or need one.

Thanks as recently mentioned it's my small fingers that defer me from 12.9
At least I got to see 12.9 in addition to 11 in Apple store last weekend.
Beautiful devices indeed, though my choice is 11' this time migrating from 10.5.

Interesting e chat today with current mobile provider.
Can someone please remind me of the following tips for any new iPad purchase such as 11"
1. Could ipad connect via Home WiFi without a data SIM card.
2. Could ipad be setup and activated via Home WiFi without a data SIM card.
I thought NO to both points as had always assumed a data card was required for both mentioned functions.
I'm a home use so no travel data concerns as such.
Thanks in advance

Yes to both questions

Thanks then I could order without unnecessary data SIM card.
If you don’t need mobile data, get the WiFi only version. No need to go through your phone carrier and pay extra for the cellular model.

The US cellular versions use an eSIM, so no physical SIM needed for AT&T or T-Mobile here. Physical SIM needed for Verizon. I know those aren’t your carriers.

Quite a few useful answers appreciated.
I noticed for 11" i pad in u.k. from Mobile providers Sky (since Comcast I beleive) that there isn't any cellular+WiFi/WiFi only choice when I go to order.
There is a choice of No Data Sim or Multiple Data SIM cards/Plans
Is it possible I could have definitive u.k. answer before I order and attempt to use via skyfibre WiFi only.
I always thought iPad's display 'Insert SIM or No SIM card inserted' on startup.

That would be awkward on iPads without a SIM card slot, no?

I'm writing this on an iPad Mini cellular model without a SIM card. I didn't not put a card in it to activate it, I just turned it on and connected it to wifi.

Heck, even the last few iPhones I've had didn't need a SIM to activate (unlocked models purchased directly from Apple).

You do not need a SIM card or active cellular data plan to activate an iPad.

Of course not. They are MOBILE providers, why would they sell the wifi-only models? No buying from them would able to use them when out and about--when people buy from a cellular company they expect to be able to use that company's services, so mobile providers only sell cellular models.

Cellular models are priced higher than wifi-only, so you can probably save money buying from elsewhere... just a thought.

I was referring to an earlier suggestion to consider Cellular only-I didn't quote that poster at the time.
My Macrumours threads/post have been via 10.5 Cellular/WiFi -I have never considered anything else until 11" as I personally haven't made use of 2gb data plan -though does handoff/continuity require data as any texts I use via 10.5 are normally counted via mobile device such as i phone Xs. -is this a consideration to take the extra expense and agree to new 1gb data plan.
[doublepost=1551295398][/doublepost]I've since asked re cycle company the latest date they. Could hold 10.5 recycle offer.
11" via Sky are up to 3 weeks for 11" delivery.

Sky-36*28-1008-4 year contract
-48*26-1248-4 year contract
1gb data sim

Current o2 10.5 64gb -total 40 pounds including 2gb data sim
O2. -36*36.67-1320.12-3 year contract
3gb data sim

I continue to think I'de be best going for Lowest Data Sim to ensure I don't drop handoff/continuity as I enjoy making and more often receiving iPhone calls and text via ipad -my favourite feature for a few years since MacBook times.

Which is nice, only leaves potential 1 week without ipad if 11" takes tha max 3 weeks for delivery.
Think I'll order this evening.
