I don't see any other threads of this, so I start wondering if I got a wrong unit or something.

The home button on the previous iPhones was giving a very consistent feel when pressing.

I find the feel for this new home button less satisfying. It seems that depending on where exactly I press, I sometimes get a light click sound, sometimes not, as if the button slightly got stuck with the ring.
The feel is not consistent press after press as it used to be.

Anyone else has noticed this?

Sorry that's how my iPhone 5 home button feels!

it was delivered on Launch day a year ago- I attempted to exchange but the replacements where the all same...
(though same store/same city -probably same shipment/batch..)though

for some reason everyone 'else's' home button feels great when i try them.!

Something to do with the force, or evil spirits- or just plain irony.

If you are nagged by these thing, then thine iPhone wilt be damned..
If thou doesn't care, then thy iPhone be blessed...

Give it a shot though!
This was mine #1 reason for wanting to upgrade, and I was assuming it had been reengineered.
Perhaps it can't be
one day, hopefully soon.. - there will be no more home button.
(or macbook air trackpad)

4 finger pinch ftw!

I'm noticing exactly the same thing on my 5s. I had a 4s before and the home button had a very consistent solid but smooth feel to it. This one can feel like that if I press it a certain way, the easiest being on the lower half of the button, but if I just press it straight on or especially to the top it feels a lot clunkier like it kind of pops back with a much more audible click. I'll pop back to the apple store on Monday and see if their display ones do the same as I have seen a number of stories about it on the iPhone 5, so maybe like you say it's just a not so good design on the 5 / 5S ? Or maybe we do have dodgy units? I'll post back

It does feel weird compared to a 4/4s button. The button is also smaller and there's less area to hold the phone, making pressing the button a weird experience. I wish they would at least give the option for capacitive wake/unlock since the technology is already built in.

What you describe is EXACTLY how mine is.

I always think my 4S button feels different to other people's 4/4S, and my girlfriend's 5. I think it's just that they don't all feel the same. My 4S is two years old now and I've just gotten used to it.

It's different because of the fingerprint sensor behind the home button.

Get used to it, they will all be the same.
