I don't think the light sensor works on my late 11 MBP

I have it set to automatic but when I cover the sensor nothing happens.

I have the same macbook pro and I observed no changes when the sensor is covered. But I noticed that the screen brightness goes up suddenly if I bring a bright light near the light sensor.

That worked and the keyboard lights went off.

guess I was wrong.
