I click sync with google contacts but don't see them in my google account. Do they already have to be there or can they be transferred from the iphone?

aw crap I synced with my google account and it deleted all my contacts on my phone
argh

If you have Time Machine and/or keep copies of even older backups, get an older backup instead of using the most recent backup that iTunes picks.

time machine?

but yeah I have older backups on another computer.. gonna pull em out now. I wonder if it'll work since I upgraded the firmware

I used to use Google contacts via iTunes, never had an issue like you are.... are you doing the Google contacts via iTunes or settings menu on phone?

Here's what happened. I THOUGHT that by clicking sync contacts with google contacts it would copy all my iphone contacts to google contacts (which was/is empty of contacts). What happened was it deleted all contacts on my iphone.

I JUST got done redoing all my contacts from an extraction of an old backup file. NOW I'm doing it by syncing to Windows Contacts. Works, except I can't designate people's phones as iphones.

you didn't by chance tick down the bottom to replace the replace information on your phone with google?

You setup your Google Account as an Exchange Server.

Server Address: m.google.com

Username: Full E-Mail Address

Simple as that. You will then have the option of setting up Mail, Contacts, and Calendars.

Moot point now..

Not touching sync with google contacts again.

Besides everytime I tried to hit configure it would ask me to sign in but then not do anything.
