I don't want my iPhone to automatically connect/control my Apple TV or HomePod - how do I change this?

As the title says - I find it very annoying that my phone is automatically setting up controls for my Apple TV. Even worse, the phone volume controls will control my HomePod (connected to AppleTV) automatically. I have yet to find any - are there settings that can change these behaviors?
