I dropped my iphone 3G this morning onto the concrete and the screen is black (with the backlight on) and there are grey lines on the right side. I was able to sync to itunes and download all of my pics which I was thrilled about, but didn't know if there is a fix for this. I was actually able to call my husband by pressing the phone icon and guessing...

It also still will ring, and there is no rattling sounds when shaken. Also, the bottom bar to activate the phone works as well.

I read about doing an LCD repair, but was wondering if this would be a good idea and if it is difficult to do. Unfortunately I do not have insurance or Applecare on my phone. This has made my morning pretty awful!!

Thanks for your responses!

It looks like your LCD has damaged. Replacing it is easy if you want to do.

First step is for you to search for you tube video on how to replace it. If you are comfortable, then order replacement LCD from Amazon and do it yourself. It will cost around $25 (LCD only)

If you are not comfortable after watching video, then my recommendation is to get this fix by professional. It will cost around $60 (LCD only)

I would follow his advice

When you order the replacement LCD, does it come with pretty good instructions? My husband is pretty good with these things and could do it if the instructions were decent.

You can also try the Apple store if you want and see what they say.

I destroyed my iPhone 4 on Friday.

First thought was get a white screen replacement on ebay since I had a white back already coming in the mail before I broke phone.

Took to Apple to try to see if they would be able to tell if it was just the screen or something else before I wasted the money ordering.

Walked out with a new phone for free. Didn't ask, didn't expect.

Thanks for all of your replies. I'll check out the youtube clip and see how I feel about fixing it myself. Haven't checked with Apple, but I doubt they'll be able to get me an inexpensive fix for my old 3g, but you never know!
