I, like many persons that contribute their questions or thoughts in this forum, finally take the plunge.

I just ordered a Mac Pro Quad 2.93 + 6GB RAM + 1TB HD with an ACD 30''.

Since the arrival of the Mac Pros with Nehalem processors, I like many others started looking to find which version to buy, since there are two flavors, Quad or Octo.

I posted some questions, got some anwsers but not quite what I was looking for. Some people were rude, but I understand that when a lot of post asking the almost the same question, can offend or annoy regular users of this forums.

So thank you to the ones that help me indirectly by posting information that I at the end help me make my decision. Sorry to the ones that got annoyed by the ones like me that are new or just try to find a quick anwser.

I will be using this awesome machine and this beautiful display to work with iPhoto, iMovie, Garage Band, I will be using Aperture and Final Cut Express, with the help of the program One to One, I will use this fine programs to the fullest of their capacity ( I will try).

I work with AVCHD files from my Panasonic SD5 camcorder and I find that my MacBook Pro works fine but I hope that the MP will be more powerfull and quick to the task that I will try to accomplish.

I'm not trying to brag about what I bought or have. I'm just happy to have found a deal since both items are refurbished but I already got a ACD 23'' and besides not getting the original box I find that the price is very good.

Just that if you're like me and use almost the same apps that I use, it may help you decide to what to get.

I got this article from a post in this forum and it may help you too...

Good day to all of you! :)

Congrats on the purchase. I just placed my order in today for my Nehalem, so now the hard part is waiting the roughly 2 weeks it takes for them to build and ship. :p

Enjoy the machine!

Congrats! You won't be disappointed at all. The quad is no slouch. Put a SSD in that baby and watch it fly. :)

If I can get a job that pays well enough next year, I'm getting the following:

Octo-core 2.93 GHz Mac Pro. Four nVidia GeForce GT 120s. The largest amount of RAM that supports triple channel and four 1 TB HDDs from OWC. Maybe I'll put the HDDs in RAID 10.

Three Dell Ultrasharp 2408s.

FCS and Logic Studio.

It should cost just under $10,000.

Maybe later I'd get an Xserve and Fibre Channel card.

And what will you do with all this power?

Aside from having the most powerful computer on my block...

I want to make a feature-length animated movie and my Mac mini and PowerMac G4 just aren't cutting it.

I still have to find some software to make the 3D characters.

I've always wanted multiple monitors. I had it once on my Studio 540, but that was with an Ultrasharp 2208WFP and a 15'' Toshiba CRT, so it doesn't really count.

You will still have to bow to Tutor's 3,2 Nehalem Octad. The guy upped a 2,26 octad with a pair of W5580s. He scored 33k on Cinebench 10 if I remember right.

I meant in my town, but I'm open to challenges and DIY. If I do get the Mac Pro I'll probably do that in the future.

And with Open CL, those four GPUs would come into play as well.

His 4890 isn't lame either.

You shipped it to my house right? .... RIGHT?! :p

I've been looking at the same setup myself. I do waaaay to much on a computer and I miss not having a desktop (cant have one where I work and I live where I work so....)
