After months of persuading myself that the iPhone wasn't for me, that I didn't need another contract (I'm currently on an Orange contract for another 12 months), and that the iPhone was too limited in functionality for what I wanted, I realised today (having researched the market extensively) that it may not be perfect but it's closer than anything else out there. So, I popped into the local O2 shop and walked out with a small box and a massive grin, and that grin is still firmly embedded on my face 8 hours later :)
Activation was an absolute breeze (took less than 2 minutes) and I just adore this shiny piece of technology - it may be similar to the iPod touch but it just feels more substantial somehow.
I'm so pleased I finally gave in, and would say to any other fence-sitters out there: just get one :)

Congratulations! Enjoy the phone!

Now, if you were convinced, maybe I could actually convince my girlfriend that it isn't an "overly expensive toy."

Some people just never get in, huh?

I am in a similar boat, I bought an unlocked iPhone today (I have a lot to learn about that) but I am similarly chuffed !

I also convinced myself that it wasnt for me yet; then I used the interface on an iPod Touch and was completely seduced :)

I'm sure that there are many people out there who go through hoops trying to convince themselves that they don't want one, or shouldn't get one.

The trouble is that if you try one, you just have to have it.

It may not be perfect, but it is pretty irresistible!

Thats me...I've decided to get one once it goes 32GB and can therefore be a full time iPod for me...trouble is, I want it now :(

I have known a few people in your situation. All of them finally broke down and bought an iPhone and they all love it. Congrats on your new phone, I am sure you will be very happy with it.

I was worried about only having 8GB of memory but you just have to be a little selective about what you synch onto the iPhone. In reality it's more than enough for me.

It's like storage space in a house. The more you have, the more you use, often to keep rubbish!

I find it difficult already cutting down my library for a 15GB iPod, and I would want to add apps etc. to the iPhone too...

Apps shouldn't take up much space. The iPhone actually comes with ~7.3GB free. I have 21 apps installed, 6 videos, 652 photos and 375 songs. I still have 4.0GB left

Nice! The iPhone is definitely a better product (I have the iPod Touch, and love it, but the iPhone is better).

Congrats!

How is the screen quality on your phone, I am currently on my third iphone all from the same O2 store. Seems like the whole batch had stuck/dead pixels. Just wondering if it has actually improved yet.

Screen is perfect and seems better than the one on my iPod touch IMO

If Only...

Haha same boat as you...and am starting to tip to one side on the fence...

but anybody have any suggestions on how to raise 200 bucks?

I'm a little short :(

enjoy your iphones you lucky ppl!

Glad to hear your happy.
Pretty soon I think you will find you didn't actually "give in" but you smartened up and did your research right.
I agree with you on the feeling of the iPod/iPhone. I do not like the iPod touch feeling because the front edges actually flare out instead of the entire side just being rounded like the iPhone.
