I get a blue question mark box instead of photos

Hey Guys,
I didn't have any luck searching the forum, and it might be because I'm just too ignorant to even identify my problem correctly.

I just picked up an original iPad. When I log into my yahoo account and go through my emails, all the picture attachments come up as blue boxes with a question mark in them.

How do I view these attachments?

Tap and hold on the question mark you want to see. A dialog should pop up for 'open in' then choose photos if it is a picture, if it is a different type of file such as a PDF either iBooks or another app that you use for those.
