I hate getting my spam in Mail.app, but when I try to delete the 'spam' folder my my Gmail IMAP account, it wont let me.

Does anybody know of a way that I can get rid of it?

thanks

I think it's a feature, not a default mailbox you can delete. Gmail puts the mail it thinks is spam into that folder (although they deny that they use "folders").

You can click Select All then Delete Forever to get rid of the messages there, or just let them be deleted automatically after a while.
