One a iMac running Panther (10.3.9) I have two HD icons on my desktop. The computer has a single user.

How can I remove one of the icons without affecting my system?

Thank you.

The drive must have been partitioned (unless you have another peripheral plugged in) when you installed originally.

You would need (I believe) to format the drive as HFS+ Mac journaled & re-install to get rid of this.

Someone may have a better way to solve however...

Either your primary HD has been partitioned or you have a second HD fitted. If the latter, you will have two HD icons unless you set the whole thing up as a RAID array. If the first, you will need to wipe the machine and re-partition. Leopard can juggle partitions on the fly, but that's not doable in Panther.

Bear in mind: two HD icons has NOTHING to do with how many users there are. It has to do with the configuration of your drive(s)

Thank you Andy and Tersono.

I understand what was said and once I get back to the computer will take the right course of action based on your thoughts.

Cheers!
