I already removed the Optical drive, it didn't work and was wasted weight, but now I want to add extra disk space, since I have the open slot in my computer. All I have found so far is the Optibay http://store.mcetech.com/Merchant2/...t_Code=OBSXGB-M17&Category_Code=STORHDOPTIBAY

But it's quite expensive, I don't really want to spend much more then $40 on this modification, are there any cheaper or DIY ways of doing it? Everything else I've seen doesn't work on the 2007 Macbook pro.

Optibay only works on the unibody macbook pro's, so late 2008 and up. You can't use an optibay in your computer.

The one I linked to is the: OBSXGB-M17 which works on the non-unibody Macbook Pro's 17in. The OBSXGB-UNB is the one that is for Unibodies, but I am looking for a cheaper alternative to Optibay entirely.

Figure out whether you need PATA or SATA (link) and get one from eBay for $10.
