Here it is, all you need is this headphone splitter with volume control (has to have a volume control) i have this griffin one but any adapter or splitter with a volume control will do. you put the volume bar/button to half and presto! no more cracks,hissing and noise from your macbook/pro!
And i did check the sound quality too and there is no loss.

It doesn't, it just has the same effect. All it does is to increase the signal to noise ratio by lowering overall volume which means having to raise system volume to overcome any residual output noise. Useful for sensitive low-impedance earphones, also works with iPods as well.

Bit like turning up the stereo to drown out the TV and then listening to it from the other room.
