So still no turn by turn GPS stock in the iPhone? I just thought about this and I didn't hear about it being announced. Am I missing something?

1) one that is a software, not a hardware issue
2) many navigation programs running on iPhone offer turn by turn
3) no, Apple doesn't have an included turn by turn GPS program, yet

It's a pretty amazing deficiency. On the other hand, I have switched from the paid Navigon app to the free Waze. And it is very good.

The problem with relying on third party apps is that when I ask siri for directions to someplace, I end up with the native Maps app.

at #2, yes, you are correct but you have to BUY them (at least the good ones worth using).

3rd party opportunity.

Google leverages its expertise in Maps to deliver this feature. They are in essence eating their own dog food.

Apple likely wouldn't do the same unless they saw the same sort of opportunity.

I thought Apple bought a cool European 3-D mapping company earlier this year. I figured like Siri....it needs some time. When I looked at the site at the time, the stuff was really cool.
