The last time I used a watch was in 2004. I work as a software programmer, and using a watch is bothersome when I'm typing on a keyboard, so I usually would take it off when I had one. I even lost my watch back in 2003 due to taking it to avoid discomfort.
Of course, with cellular phones, the time is right there on the screen, along with all the other stuff modern smartphones do. The watch is purely a fashion accessory. The ironic problem I see is that Apple is the one that really popularized the smartphone to replace a lot of other gadgets: camera, PDA, gameboy, and especially the watch. Now they want us to break a mold that they helped form.
