I heard that more notification options on the way

I very much want to go back to my iPhone but find that the ability to set up notifications are lacking. After waiting for 15 minutes for a return email I find that I am not even hearing the notification that it has arrived. I have the same problems with SMS and miss their arrival, at times, too.

I heard a rumor they were going to give us more options in the new iOS. Is this true? Is their an APP that will make notifications more versatile?

You can jailbreak and install Lockinfo. As far as without jailbreaking, nobody knows for sure, obviously, but there are rumors that Apple is working on a new notification system for iOS 5.
