Ok. When I hit the power button, the screen flashes very briefly (gray), and I can hear the hardware starting up. I've tried the p-ram reset thing on the mac website, but i may have done it wrong. So, any help, no matter how basic, is appreciated.

Oh, it is plugged in, and i do NOT have the mac os X install disc.

thanks!

The hard drive was replaced about five days ago.

2 gigs of ram, 2.0 ghz (approx) dual-core processor.

To be honest, it's my girlfriend's computer. I use a pc, and know a huge amount about pcs. But, I do not know anything about macs or how they work, and neither does she.

Ask her if she has the disk that comes with the MB...try use that see if that fixes. Is your power adapter connected to your MB?..

I have already said that it is plugged in and that she does not have the startup disk.

Sounds like a logicboard problem - if the hard disk had failed it would boot to a "flashing folder".

Is the green led on the charger?
Is it bright ?
Is the battery fully charged ?

You could try resetting the power thingy - take the battery out, take the MagSafe out and holder the power button for 5-10 seconds. Put the battery back in and try booting from the battery....

Sounds like bad ram.

Make sure both sticks are seated properly in the slots.

If that doesn't work try pulling a stick.

If that doesn't work I'd say its probably logic board related.
