I installed a new hard drive, and now the speakers sound like a machine gun...

Hi everyone, first post... hopefully last...

My hard drive died in my PowerBook G4 and I replaced it yesterday... now my speakers sound like a machine gun.

I think the issue is somewhere in the internal microphone/speakers as this noise goes away completely when I put headphones into the headphone jack. ...but as soon as I take out the headphones the noise comes back.

What is happening here and how do I fix it???
