I just bought a new Apple aluminum remote for my Macbook Pro. Whats a good remote program to download to use with it? I looked at remote buddy, but that is $20, and I don't want my $20 remote to turn into a $40 remote. So, any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm wondering if there is an alternative to Remote Buddy that people know of. Is the Apple remote compatible with VLC out of box?

My old white remote does NOT work with VLC on my old white iMac. :(

Not to be rude... but did you think of trying it yourself? You have the remote, VLC is a free download, and you probably have some media that can be played in VLC. Just try it.

You're not being rude. I understand. :). I bought my remote online from my supplier, J&R. So its not here yet.

I am looking more for something to use with media, but that also looks sweet. Thank you.

Download plex and link all your media to it. Absolutely brilliant app, the only problem it has is it can't play iTunes video because of DRM.

Hahaha. This made me actually laugh out loud.
Your supplier? Dude, it's a freaking crappy Apple remote, not an eight ball.

Wow. Grow up. I buy most of my electronics from them for me personally and for business.

spinnerlys and JAWWC: Thank you for your replies. Spinnerlys: what version of VLC do you use? And yea, I do enjoy Plex, but sometimes I just want to get into the movie and not deal with menus, but maybe if VLC doesn't work I'll just use that.

The remote should work with VLC player, as even my white one (10/2007) does it.

It does? Mine doesn't... it doesn't do ANYTHING when VLC is open, not even changing the volume. As soon as I close VLC, it works fine with Front Row. Did you do any kind of updates or anything? Or is your remote newer than mine? Mine is from my old Core Solo Mac Mini (early '06).

I agree but I like being able to watch certian shows on my own time, like daily show, colbert, heres, and some others.
