Sorry to rant but I just don't get it anymore. The last thing for me to get out of the Google ecosystem completely was Chrome and while I do make some exceptions with Mail, iCloud, and Maps in what I feel is subpar to their Google counterparts I do value as much security as possible so that was my trade off. However, on my 24" iMac I only do 3 things...watch Twitch, YouTube/Movies, and keep Outlook 365 open for my work email.

As long as Monterey has been out there's been memory issues with Twitch increasing my memory pressure to the point its in the yellow and I get a warning. No sweat, I'll just watching Twitch in the living room. But the other day I left my Outlook open and came back a few hours later only to see a warning that the page was refreshed due to excess resource use or something. Are you serious?! One tab and zero other applications open...

I downloaded and installed Chrome, Firefox, and Edge and did similar tests with zero issues. And before you say it's the iMac, it does the same stuff on my M1 MBA so unless it's the M1/unified memory then I don't know. I'm going to try it on my wife's Intel MBP to see but I literally can't use Safari for basic stuff and it makes no sense. Part of me says screw it and if I have to use Chrome I may as well use Gmail and Google Maps too ha.

there is now solutions for safari woes.
I need waterox for several websites, but safari for everything else.
remember
safari is a huge cog in the " 2022 or else" wheel.

I recommend Brave. It's based on Chromium but all Google stuff is removed. It has built in ad blocker, possibility to browse in TOR mode, good tab management and more.
