My Model 3 Tesla runs like a top. My MINI Cooper however, just took a $1500 cracked motor mount, oil change, new battery, maintenance, etc and then a week later left me stranded an hour outside of town causing another $300 towing fee.

Haven't even bothered to take it back to the shop which will cost how many more $$$. But MINI Cooper repairs just took my 14" MBP money. /sigh.

It’s only ram and storage that are expensive - and this has been true for years. I don’t know why people are surprised by these prices. I understand the 14” a bit - but it’s also a larger MacBook so it was assumed they would raise prices compared to the high-end 13”

Nobody was expecting anything under $1,799 who understands the Mac product line.

i kinda was, maybe around 1700-1800, but at 2k, its only 500 bucks cheaper than the 16inch.

My only thing is, at this point, the 13" barely serves a purpose in the product lineup. It's way too similar to the Macbook air in terms of specs/design/ports unless you really max it out.

It almost feels like it should be discontinued completely and that the 14" should be priced a couple hundred bucks lower. It's as if it the 13" MBP now only exists because we've always been used to having a 1200 Macbook Pro option, and they don't want to change that status quo. But with the release of the new pros, it kinda feels like the 13" pro base model, really isn't a "pro" model anymore at all. It's essentially just a thicker Air with a touchbar. Just my two cents.

I do like the new update though, like I said, the last MBP was way too similar to the Air, this update provides the differentiation it needed to really feel like the higher-end notebook that it is in the product lineup.

the 16inch price is not bad, but the 14inch...ouch
The 14" is $200 cheaper for equivalent spec which is totally consistent considering they are the exact same computer now, same processors, same display technology, same speakers...

Most business professionals want a 13 or 14-inch model with the best battery life possible. M1 Pro is overkill for those users. There’s plenty of room for the 13” Pro.

Hmm, fair, but I kinda disagree. I feel like business professionals would prefer those extra ports that come with the new 14" pro and would just bit the bullet for the higher cost laptop.

But I also work in a PC dominated industry, so I may just be out of my element here.

I wonder if they'll upgrade the 13 with chips for a few years before phasing them out. They need to keep a lower price point for struggling professionals.

i'm talking about 14 base vs 16 base, which is only 500 bucks difference, that gap was alot bigger in the past.

For those doing presentations in-person, a simple USB-C to HDMI adapter is enough. It’s hard to justify why you would need to spend $300 for TB4, SD, and HDMI.

I think for once Apple gave people the choice in size while keeping the performance options very similar, as stated on this post, a spec by spec direct comparison yields only a $200 difference between the 2 sizes.

Yeah this. The only "better" thing about the 16" is a larger built-in display, but the whole point of these laptops is that they can power multiple external displays when necessary, while being portable and powerful. The 14" is much better for portability and has no compromises on the ability to drive external displays. So..for me it's actually the superior device, and it's a bonus that it's cheaper..

I think the price is fair, considering the performance you're getting. The M1 is extremely powerful already while also being affordable. We're getting into high-end PC territory with these new Max/Pro chips, in the form factor of a 14" laptop. If you genuinely need the M1 Pro/Max to make money, $2000 for a laptop is nothing. It's like complaining about the price professional workstations from the perspective of a everyday consumer.

Like the new Mac Pro, it's clear that Apple is really aiming for their 'Pro' machines to be focused on being professional machines and not just faster/fancier consumer machines.
