You can customise any Finder window toolbar and all of Apple's apps toolbars.

I think the best customisation to the toolbar is showing the full URL rather than just the domain (Preferences > Advanced).

The only other app I could find that has customizable toolbar is Disk Utility

If you right click (or Control-Click for us oldies ) on the Finder toolbar, the last option on the pop-up menu should be the customise toolbar option.
